June 15, 2002 : What I did on my late Spring Vacation

Greetings all you Extreme Weezils Fans! Although I have been home all last week, I have not done much in the way of site updates, or at least as much as I had planned to. What did I do all week, you ask? Well, since you asked ...

Click to get the 800x600 version I've been going to the local Gold's Gym a few days a week with a friend. Working out at home is very convenient and sometimes seems almost mandatory in the winter time, but there is nothing like getting into a professional gym and hittin' the weights with a friend. It helps that she is a bit stronger than I am, so of course ego demands that I work a bit harder to try to catch up. I have been walking around with sore muscles for weeks, but it is so worth it!

Besides working on building my muscles, I've been building my brain; two near-obsessions for me these days. All last week I devoted as much time as possible learning some more advanced aspects of graphic design and more about the programs I use to create my own digital art. There is an abundance of free information online, but I prefer the comfort of holding a book in my hands and taking notes. Writing things down helps me learn - something I discovered in pharmacy school.

Here is an alternate version, slightly different. Also links to an 800x600 sized version What vacation would be complete without EVEN MORE Weezil Time? Check out the latest collection of Ferret Flix 12 and Ferret Flix 13 to see part of what I must endure daily... are you feeling bad for me yet?

Bandit's Surgery and Recovery : A Synopsis and Hope for the Future
Bandito Burritto has made a full recovery. At least that is what we are hoping is the case. His stitches are finally out and a thin layer of peach fuzz is beginning to grow back in the area of the suture.

I have received a virus a day almost from my ferrets@... email address so, it saddens me to say, that I must restrict contact to using my FEEDBACK page. I will update that right now to reflect as such...

... The Extreme Weezils' WebMistress and WeezilMom turns 33 ...

It is actually around midnight, technically the night BEFORE my birthday, but that does not stop me from taking stock of the true gifts I already have in my life... Besides the eight ferrets, two cats, and one husband living with me in a beautiful home, my grandparents are staying with us all this week.

Of course for months prior to their visit I worried about what they would think about the ferrets. After all, how many people in general never mind World War II veterans and The Great Depression survivors could even FATHOM the idea of having eight ferrets in the house...

Bandit, five pounds of Extreme Weezil! The Day After.
At around 1am this morning, my husband woke me up as he was joining me in bed with the somewhat predictable news that Bandit had ALREADY removed his bandage!

The bandage that was supposed to be on for THREE WEEKS didn't even last TWELVE HOURS. That's our boy! Seriously, I'm not sure what vets do in situations like this.

It's not like we were thrilled with the idea that Bandit had to wear what effectively mimics a corset. Picture this: the ferret you see here, in his full five pounds of glory, with an ace-bandadge-like corset tightly wrapped around his middle...

Bandit had surgery today ... It all started with a small lump on the right side near his front arm [only ferret freaks like me call them arms and legs instead of just legs..] Basil had something a bit similar a month or so after we got him, so we didn't think much of it.

This bump would grow, get smaller, grow, shrink, again, again ... until one day it was BIG. My husband took Bandit to the vet for an emergency visit this past Saturday. A few days of antibiotics seemed to help, but not enough to avoid surgery!!!!

Today was our first surgery ... of any ferrets at all. It was a bit overwhelming, all the implications and waiting for the biopsy results in a few days as well. What do you do when you try to make everything perfect for your fuzzies and they STILL fall ill or need surgery?

Bonzai and Blizzard's First Vet Visit ... The Extreme Weezls Meet their New Doc

It has taken us months of research and hours of looking to find a new vet for the Extreme Weezils. We went from Dr. Kamaka in Woodinville, to Dr. Deeb in Seattle, and now over to Marysville Animal Hospital's Dr. David E. [like a typical medical professional, he cannot write legibly to save a life, of course I'm no exception ...]

Since I was laid up all day [up at 4pm Friday afternoon, back to sleep off and on until 8:30pm - do you think I slept tonight?] I was unable to accompany our babies to their visit. However, I was told all about it in detail, and here is what was found:

Blizzard does NOT have a broken bone or even something torn, as my husband and I were afraid of. He does, however, have a very tender shoulder when pressed down upon and still walks with a limping gait. He will get better over time. Blizzard weighs in at 3.2 pounds, a heavy average ferret we are told.

Bonzai is in perfect health and wasn't even weighed because ... well, I'm not sure why, but it is not on the paperwork. I'll ask my husband when he wakes up... Raven got her annual rabies vaccine. She has put on a bit of weight since her last vet visit and weighs in at a whoppin' 1.8 pounds!

Bandit was originally brought in to have a lump looked at but that turned out to be nothing, as it had recently scabbed over and started healing. However, Bandit DOES have a heart murmur and may need to see a ferret cardiologist if it becomes more pronounced or troublesome. Our Bandito Burritto! No!

As I have been saying for years now, Bandit is among the largest ferrets I've ever seen or heard about, weighing in at over 4.5 pounds and that is his SUMMER weight!

Bonzai and Blizzard have EAR MITES! Ack! We went through this last summer with our original six PLUS the cats! Great strides in ear mite treatment have created the once only treatment, eliminating the need for those twice a day ear drops that ferrets HATE! They are ALL getting treated, all eight of them...

Blitz is just getting over a cold but he wasn't ill enough to bring him along, so we are taking the rest to the vet on Tuesday : Basil, Bear, Blitz, Sasha... four each visit!
Amidst the Computer Chaos ... April 20, 2002 ... 3:27AM

So far I have experienced the following in the last two months:

... Weezil Cam died for no apparent reason, and after days of messing around with it we come to the conclusion that the only option left is to:

... wipe my entire hard drive clean and reinstall all my software, files, etc. I ended up doing this TWICE within a five day period, only to have Weezil Cam still not working

... Attempting to install and configure a different webcam that we had hanging around the house and will get to it when I'm not working, busy, or in bed with a raging migraine headache

... along with the lack of Weezil Cam, my entire Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer setup is corrupt, resulting in frequent crashes of both programs

... today was the day I was going to get everything done so I could enjoy my weekend off. I ended up with a migraine that had me in bed from midnight last night to almost 4pm Friday afternoon! Hence, I am awake less than twelve hours later, my entire sleep cycle ruined for a few days...
.

So, here I sit, cat [Dusty] on lap, in front of my computer for some quiet time. The sun is just starting to rise here on the West Coast - my favorite time of day!

My husband just came shuffling out from all the way down the other end of the house, where the master bedroom is, to find out why on Earth I was NOT in bed. I'm spending some quiet time with Dusty, the chirping birds outside, the sunrise, and the waning darkness....
