Saturday, October 05, 2002 12:48:59 PM Eight bored ferrets. Never in the history of all that is fuzzy has there been a more potentially dangerous force than eight bored ferrets. The winter weather has arrived here in the Western Washington / Puget Sound area and will be staying on probably through May 2003. Indoor activities become the norm as constant drizzle, rain, or general cool dampness is the rule rather than exception. Blessed with an extraordinary summer season this year, sun almost daily, I suppose I have no room to complain. The inevitable has arrived : being forced to integrate Saxon into our fuzzy family instead of having him wait outside until the weezils have finished their twice-daily house romp. Today we will be talking to one of our trainers via phone to discuss this issue, among others ... |
Tuesday, October 01, 2002 9:49:49 PM Weezils, Kitties, and Saxon .. oh my! This is my story. This is my life. I find that the more I drift away from the fuzzies named above, the more I suffer from the usual maladies humans find themselves burdened with in today's society. Information overload, overworked due to manpower budget constraints, health care overwhelm [I'm a pharmacist, and the department manager to boot - unable to make many decisions but able to take ALL the blame!] stress related fatigue and illness, and social isolation due to time and location restrictions threaten to plague me on a daily basis. However, I do prevail. How? A typical day for me, when I do not have to work at least, goes like this: 8AM : up to take Saxon for a walk, my husband taking the leash most of the time until Saxon is trained more
9AM : shower and other morning beauty rituals 10AM : The Extreme Weezils come out for their first of two romps around the house. To prepare for these romps, we must close the pet door, close the door to the computer room, close the master bathroom door, pick all cat and dog food bowls off the floor, sweep all the floor space for cat toys and other miscellany, prepare any tubes or other ferret fun for the romp, let Saxon outside where he stays for the entire romp 11AM : Return all eight ferrets to their room after we have cleaned it completely 12NOON : Eat lunch and plan the rest of the day 1PM : Chat with my Nana online 2 or 3PM : Take Saxon for another walk or drive to a place where he can run around and have fun 6 or 7PM : Eat dinner 7PM : Take Saxon for his last walk of the day 8PM : The Extreme Weezils come out for their final daily romp. See above for house preparations. Saxon goes outside again, as he has just been walked and is tired out by the time the Weezils are due out, making it an optimal time for him to nap outdoors by the pet door |

Sunday, September 22, 2002 12:19:48 PM It has been a very interesting three weeks. Juggling work, eight ferrets, two cats, one puppy, and a husband has been less than easy. We have signed Saxon up for Puppy Kindergarten Classes, had an animal behaviorist come out to the house for an evaluation, and completely changed and structured our lifestyle to fit our full house of fuzzies. During this challenging adjustment time, I am also thinking constantly about new ways to keep all the babies entertained : cat, dog, and of course, ferret! I'm anxious to add to the Extreme Weezils' Fun and Games Page. Any ideas would be much appreciated and would be shared for all to see! |
