Friday, June 27, 2003 9:04:23 AM Trouble in Paradise ... Sasha now has a bump like the ones we have found on Bandit - who subsequently had to have them both surgically removed. Bandit is quite large, so is an easier procedure - so said our vet- but Sasha is petite! What will happen if she needs surgery? She is too small for this! Lucy, our visitor, has been pooping all watery and green - it COULD be that she is still getting used to her temporary enviroment, but we will call the vet today to be sure. Sonya had her toenail removed after splitting it - apparently spontaneously - which I understand is common. She is hobbling around the house and yard - when we let her outside - and looks quite pitiful. A pitiful pitbull, indeed. STAY TUNED .... |
Tuesday, June 24, 2003 2:52:28 PM Lucy's Extreme Adventure Continues ...
It is official : in no way is Bonzai capable of being in physical contact with Lucy other than outside her closed and safe cage. Bonzai acts as though it is his sole mission in his life to get at poor Lucy girl, and seems to go to any length possible to do so. The photos presented here are of Lucy, taken two days ago in the Weezil Room ... Notice the little crown-shaped marking on Lucy's forehead? It must be a sure sign that she is a princess! She looks a lot like our Raven - so much so that without the markings, it would be difficult to tell some of their photos apart. However, she IS far heavier than either of our two girls, Sasha and Raven.
Hopefully, she will continue to integrate into a brand new world for her that includes lots of room to run and play as well as many fellow ferrets to keep her company. HALF of the Extreme Weezils cannot be left alone with her right now : Bonzai, our two girls Sasha and Raven, and, much to my surprise, Basil! Yes, Mr. Basil E. Dookenheimer becomes a wild man when he is around Lucy. He probably sees this as his chance to actually win a wrestling match - usually he is getting pushed around by his brothers and sisters, although he DOES hold his own and even win just a few on occasion ... ![]() Weezil Time, twice a day at 10am and 8pm PST when the ferrets come out of their room to romp around the house (supervied, of course!) has become even trickier, especially when alone... There are TWO places of interest to keep close watch on : the ferret room AND right outside the ferret room door. Blitz, Bonzai, Sasha, and even Basil have taken to scratching the rug at the barrier, apparently in an attempt to get to the other side ... Either they want to get at Lucy [Bonzai, Sasha, and Raven] or they just want to make sure snacks, new food, or special treats aren't missed out on [Blitz.] |
Saturday, June 21, 2003 11:17:58 PM Again, fate brings another fuzzy encounter to my workplace. One of my pharmacy customers came to me not too long ago, clearly distraught, and asked me how much I would charge her for watching her ferret, Lucy, for a month while she went to visit her son on the East Coast. Relieved that I was not about to gain ferret number nine, I quickly told her that I would not take a dime from her, just allow me to talk to my husband first ... It has been about a month since she approached me, and Lucy is now amongst us, tucked away safe in her own cage inside the Extreme Weezils' Room ... Of course we introduced Lucy to the Extreme Weezils and our home FIRST, before her mom left, just to make sure nothing horrendous came of the meeting. Everything would have went without a hitch, had Bonzai not been insanely obsessed with trying to beat the stuffing out of poor little Lucy ... Naturally that did not go on for more than a few moments, as we seperated them as soon as the trouble made itself apparent. After an interesting start - the first day she was here all eight ferrets crawled all over the outside AND inside of her cage, until they were all forcibly removed when it became obvious she was quite disturbed - Lucy seems to be getting the hang of what it is to be an Extreme Weezil. |
Sunday, May 11, 2003 11:35:57 PM ON VACATION! Tommorrow morning I leave for an entire week to visit my family, friends, and place of origin just north of Boston, MA, U.S.A. The Extreme Weezils' Dad is staying behind to watch the fuzzies and the house - the usual arraingement. Dusty - my cat of the two - promised to tell me everything that went on during my absence ... besides, how much more fun can one person have than caring for eight ferrets, two cats, and two dogs - one of which just had neutering surgery and is convinced she is pregnant ... Bye - see everyone in a week or so! In my absence, browse around the site and get your mandatory dose of fuzz ... |
Saturday, May 10, 2003 5:04:03 AM COINCIDENCE? : Yesterday, Friday, myself [the Webmistress], Sonya, and Bandit had one hell of a day. Sonya had her neutering operation so she would never, ever be used again for annual breeding as well as not feeling compelled anymore to create live dog porn in our front yard. Meanwhile, behind the facade of this innocent looking bookstore ... [whoops, mind wandering for a moment there - fans of White Zombie and/or the original Batman TV Series may recognize that regressive thought.... ] I mean, in another operating room in the same building, Bandit was having another mast cell tumor removed. I was similarly unconscious, and no general anethesia was responsible for THAT. I had a KILLER migraine - the kind involving the entire body in excruciating, relentless pain .... where mere light becomes razor-sharp lances, like a phillips-head in to my brain... SONYA AND BANDIT'S DAY AT THE VET - Sonya, our three-year old [at best estimate by the vet, anyway] pit bull/lab mix was neutered Friday. Her ferret brother Bandit, our alpha male and the most people-friendly of our eight weezils, had another mast cell tumor removed from his belly. Sonya will never again need the same surgery, but Bandit could very well end up under the knife again at any time - left alone mast cell tumors can get dangerous and even deadly ... |

FERRET ESCAPE ... Almost
NOTE : the following was taken verbatim from my husband's brand new personal website ...
05/02/2003 Entry: "A ferrety escape ..."
From the Journal of the Extreme Weezils' Dad: Well I had a near incident again the other day ... once again ferret related. It is our daily ritual to let the ferrets out to play from their enclosed room twice a day, every day, for about 45 minutes to play and run around. There are a few places in the house that we close off so that the ferrets don't get into trouble. One of these places is the sliding-glass pet door. There is a plastic door that slides in place preventing the dogs from coming in while the ferrets are in the house and keeps the weezils (spelling courtesy of www.extremeweezils.com) from getting out. Well, for some unknown reason I forgot to slide the panel in place this time. Within 10 seconds these little guys found the one spot in our huge house that promised trouble. Unfortunately they discovered it before I did. I only took me a few moments to realize my mistake, and of course I was convinced there wasn't enough time to have had gone by in order for any ferrets to actually figure out how to get throguh the door. So I thought. And then there was Bonzai racing across the back yard like a rabbid rat furiously tap-dancing to some insane beat. You'd have to know Bonzai to know what I mean. Anyway, after I swallowed my heart a few times and screamed like a high school girl, I grabbed up what ferrets I could reach and flung them into their room for safe keeping. Flying out the door I frantically scouped up the little guy in one swoop, thanking God in every kind of prayer I could come up with at the moment. It certainly could have been much worse. It was only after putting Bonzai back in his room that I had a horrible thought. Could there have been more than one ferret out there? I was already moving to the door again even as I was assuring myself that yet another weezil couldn't have been that quick. Wrong again. No sooner had I glanced out the door than I saw Sasha running across the patio. Once again choking on panic, I ran outside and grabbed Sasha before she had the chance to squeeze under the shed in the back yard. If I wasn't freaked out before, now I was starting to feel real panic. How on earth did these guys get out here so fast? How many of them made it out? Were there any more outside? Running around like crazy, I started my ferret count ... making sure that all eight had finally been accounted for and were safely inside. I think it took about 50 counts before I actually felt secure enough to realize that everything had turned out okay. If there is only one source of trouble for fifty miles, ferrets will find it within seconds. |
