The Weezil Cam FAQ - Everything you ever wanted to know about our Extreme Weezils' Ferret Cam

When is Weezil Cam usually running?
Between 8am and 6pm Pacific Time. Sometimes we turn it on later, usually before noon, and other times it goes off sooner due to the shorter days.

Where are all the ferrets?
What is all that stuff inside the ferret room?
Go to the Extreme Weezils' Habitat page for more details.

Why does the picture seem a bit hazy?

The camera is a wide angle panorama, allowing for a virtually [get it???] complete view of the Weezils Room.

Where ARE all the ferrets?

Usually, if they are not out romping around our house, they are sleeping in the upper left hand corner of the shot. [see photo]
Welcome to the Extreme Weezils Frequently Asked Questions page!
Most of these questions have answers at the designated link in the question itself.

FertPaware the Extreme Weezils?
The Extreme Weezils are our EIGHT ferrets: Bear, Blitz, Basil, Bandit, Blizzard, Bonzai, Sasha, and Raven. They have one purpose in life: to have fun. At least, that is what they think. They don't have to know how much fun James and I have with them around. the EIGHT Extreme Weezils

FertPaware you, the webmaster?
Who am I ... well, besides seeing the answer to the above question, I am but a simple human, owned by eight ferrets and two cats, plus one husband, James. I am a pharmacist by trade, pharmacy manager by day and WeezilMom and WebMaster for the Extreme Weezils at all times... I wear many hats. Don't I look silly wearing all these hats?

FertPaware the Extreme Kitteez?
Dusty and Pepper, sisters, friends, and our furkids feline style. They were adopted as kittens by my husband, two years before I burst upon the scene. Luckily, they seem to tolerate me and accept me as part of the family, as they do their weezil siblings. Pepper has made it clear to the world that she is loyal to only one human on this planet, and that is her Dad, James. Everyone else is either in her way or needs a good hissing at. Dusty is her mild-mannered sister who has adopted me as her human chair. I AM the lap. Dusty becomes one with my lap on a daily basis. I have the cat claw scars all over the front of my thighs to prove it [that is how we know it is time to cut Dusty's nails, by the severity of the welts on my legs ...]

FertPawin their right mind would have eight ferrets and two cats under the same roof?
Only the strong of heart, light of hand, and heavy of purse... I'm still working on that heart thing. Now I cry about ALL animal stories, not just the real sad ones. Having all these fuzzies around me constantly has really upped my empathy for animals and dramatically increased my shame for being part of the human race sometimes ...

FertPawis eligible to GET WEEZILIZED?
Anyone visiting this website who writes me to request one. . I will send you a 'You have been WEEZILIZED' by the Extreme Weezils' icon to put on your website, tattoo on your back, etc.

FertPaware ferrets, really?
Ferrets are members of the Mustelid family, which includes badgers, weasels, stoats, and mink. They are NOT rodents! There is a large difference between the wild and endangered Black-Footed Ferret of North America and the domesticated ferret. Domesticated ferrets are bred for their docile and people - friendly tendencies ... but don't tell THEM that. Raven and Bear especially like to think of themselves as being killa fuzzies, see? Gonna bite you, see? Gonna nip you with my little ferrety canines, see?

FertPawis it like living with eight ferrets and two cats on a daily basis?
I usually describe it as like watching the Discovery Channel or Animal Planet live in our home. Our cats have grown fond of their ferret siblings and have been known to enjoy chasing them around, swatting them and running, and apparently enjoy watching the ferrety antics from a safe distance! Over the past year the cats have become emboldend, so much so as to enter the ferret room of their own free will and actually *gasp* stay in there for a bit before being driven out by Weezily Noses seeking cat smell.

FertPawshould I do if my ferret has a particular behavior or symptom that seems unusual?
My general rule is when in doubt, call the vet! See the Ferret Care section on this topic, as well as the Ferret Health page ... If you know what is 'normal' for your ferret, you are already prepared for emergencies, as any information you can provide your vet about how your ferret is acting differently than 'normal' may save a fuzzy life!

FertPawhelpful books and other references are available on ferrets?
The two books I have found to be of most value are on the Extreme Weezils Reviews page and other references can be found on the Ferret Links page.

FertPaware some ferret specific words that are found on this and many other sites?
I have compiled a Ferret Wordz Glossary that includes both common words used in the online ferret community and our own words specific to our Extreme Weezils.

FertPawdid you first get the idea to have ferrets as pets?
Read about this at the Extreme Weezils Story!

FertPawdoes one find a ferret knowledgeable vet?
This is a hard one, as it is difficult to get an idea about a certain vet just by looking in the phone book or even talking to their office. If you are lucky, your local state ferret association can provide you with ferret-knowledgable vets in your area. The various ferret websites have some vet listings, so a search using a good search engine would be a good start. Our somewhat limited experience has been that the vets that love ferrets and even have their own at home seem to be the best.

FertPawcan I purchase ferret related products?
A short list is available at the Ferret Links page.

FertPawdo I get one of your cool Extreme Weezils' banners for my website?
Extreme Weezils Banners are available upon request in the following formats: regular chrome large, chrome small, button, regular black large, black small, or I will email you one to fit your site specifications. See the Webmasters Information page for above graphics

FertPawcan I find out what I need before bringing home my first ferret?
There is a lot of this kind of information on our Ferret Basics page, as well as the Ferret Care section.

FertPawdo you refer to your six ferrets as the Extreme Weezils?
They are weasels, a pet name for ferrets used by some ferret enthusiasts [get it? pet name? haha, ferret humor... ahem ... back to the task at hand] and they are extreme in every sense of the word. Check out the definition at the top of the Ferret Wordz Glossary.

FertPawshould I bookmark the Extreme Weezils right away and return often?
Besides offering a relatively large amount of ferret related information, stories, and opinions, I am constantly adding and updating the pictures, images, and photographs sprinkled throughout the site as well as the actual photo - intensive pages. Also, we would like you to. :)

FertPawvisit the Extreme Weezil Message Board and post your comments, email, homepage, etc.?

There should be an open dialog among ferret owners and enthusiasts all over the world, and what better place to encourage that then the internet! Also, the Extreme Weezils love to hear what others think of their work, both praise and criticism, rants, raves, and other comments ....

FertPawdo you update your pages?
At least some of the Extreme Weezils web pages are updated three times a week, and the entire site is updated, changed, added and edited, several times a month. The latest photos are available via the link on our Whatz New Page

FertPawdo you find time to play and otherwise interact with all six ferrets every day?
One does not find time for ferrets, one makes time. Fortunately, I work a schedule that gives me more days off than most people, since I work twelve hour shifts. Even if I bring a book into the ferret room with me and lie on the floor with the fuzzies, reading while they either play all around me [and on me!] or sleep near me, it counts.

FertPawshould I take my ferret to the vet?
As stated above, see the Ferret Care page and Ferret Health page.

FertPawdoes one find ferrets that need good homes?
First, visit your local ferret or animal shelter. There are shelters in every major city and in most suburbs as well. Ferrets of all shapes, sizes, and ages need loving, permanent, or even foster homes. My heart breaks every time I think of all the poor fuzzies out there, but I have to be thankful that we have our three shelter fuzzies along with our three pet store ferts [which could have just as easily ended up at the local shelter or worse if we did not bring them home!] Pet stores are an option, as well as breeders, but I am partial to shelter fuzzies, as there are so many of them out there! [as I type this, tears threaten to blur my vision when I think about the reality which we humans have made for animals...]

FertPawcan I find out more about the Extreme Weezils or just ask a general question?

Go to our feedback page and send it off!.
