FERRET : 1. to hound or harry relentlessly .. hound, hunt, or trace 2. hunting with ferrets ... hunt down, run, track down 3. discover, find ... search and discover through persistent investigation
Ferrets:
Weezil Arrow : Rich Redwill eventually find a way to get around your supposed ferret-proofed areas, despite your own satisfaction that you did the perfect job

There always seems to be some sort of forgotten plant or item left out where the ferrets can get at it, or the ferrets magically become able to reach the seemingly unreachable.
Weezil Arrow : Rich Redare NOT cage animals and should be confined to their cage as little as possible, allowing for a minimum of four hours of play time outside cage per day, supervised, in a ferret - proofed area

This is one of the biggest mistakes ferret owners seem to be making. Caging a ferret for too many hours in a day leads to a bored ferret; responsible for bad behaviors such as biting, nipping, cloth chewing, cage biting, and digging in the litter or food containers. Allowing a ferret to be caged for too long equates to abuse, despite your best intentions ...
Weezil Arrow : Rich Redmake great companion animals ONLY FOR CERTAIN PEOPLE [... see What It Takes To Be Owned By Ferrets to find out who these people are ...]

Weezil Arrow : Rich Redcan catch human influenza [the flu] and exhibit cold-like symptoms such as wheezing and sneezing

Weezil Arrow : Rich Redare considered adults at 1 year of age, males weighing up to 4 or 5 lbs. and females 2 to 3 lbs

Weezil Arrow : Rich Redmale ferrets tend to be more affectionate while females are more curious to the point of refusing to be held for long - although this is a common occurence, our six ferrets are equally snuggly while at times also refuse to be held

Weezil Arrow : Rich Redlive to about 5 to 10 years old, depending on the health history, proper nutrition, and genetics

Weezil Arrow : Rich Redare a lot of fun and gratifying to have as companion animals but FERRETS REQUIRE AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF WORK

Weezil Arrow : Rich Redcan be trained to do things from using the litter box, at least to get up to an 80% hit rate, to recognizing various words like their own names and nicknames

Weezil Arrow : Rich Redhave the grace and speed of magicians, able to make objects and themselves disappear at will, even if you look away 'just for a second'

Weezil Arrow : Rich Redmust have several hours a day interaction with you, the human owner, as well as outside the cage and even own ferret room [... see Ferret Fun and Games for ideas for you and your ferret ...]

Weezil Arrow : Rich Redare available in many different colors, from the all white albino to the nearly completely black chocolate sable

Weezil Arrow : Rich Redrequire special ferret - specific food, toys, and various paraphenilia that can add up to quite a lot of money

Weezil Arrow : Rich Redwill find trouble anywhere they can make it, despite how cute they look

Weezil Arrow : Rich Redrequire a high level of intellectual stimulation as they are highly intellegent animals, comparible to cats and dogs say a few studies

This means you have to really be clever to outsmart a ferret if you do not want him getting into something. They have an uncanny ability to get bored seemingly in relation to how much a toy costs: the more money you spend on something, the less interested the ferret is in it, and vice versa. Of course this works only if you don't have obscene amounts of money lying around needing to be spent, in which case it wouldn't drive us all so crazy and therefore not done by said ferret.
